*Does not include crankshaft seals. Detroit Diesel engines can use a variety of alternate front and rear crankshaft seals. These seals can be purchase separately. Please be aware that there can be both left and right hand rotation seals, as well as single and double lip in some cases.
The Detroit Diesel 4-53 engine serial number resembles "04DXXXXXXX" and it can be located stamped into a flat machined surface on the right side of the engine cylinder block. Usually this engine serial is located in the top rear corner.
